About Slow Garments
So how do these stories usually begin?
I think a lot of independent female-founded fashion brands start in a similar way. A creative little girl who loved making things, an obsession with fabrics, which may I add - still stands as an adult, and a desire to create something of her own.
For me it started when my sewing machine become my escape with the freedom of designing and sewing my own clothes. What the little girl who loved making things didn't realise is that creative spark would grow into something much bigger. The same love for creating, combined with a passion for designing and a more conscious approach to fashion, would eventually become Slow Garments in 2020.
Previous to this, in 2019 I was sewing and selling dresses, underwear and swimwear on Depop. The feedback was amazing and was fuelling my creative spark and buying more & more fabric (as if i needed an excuse!) to sew more garments.
During 2019 I became much more eco-conscious which led me to delve into the type of materials I was using, so with that I put all of my effort into researching sustainable fabrics and improving my designs.
Slow Garments was established as we entered 2020, with my desire to make high quality clothing in eco-friendly fabrics, ethically made to last a long time in your wardrobe with as little impact on our planet.
Slow Garments name is inspired by the philosophy of ‘Slow Fashion’ with timeless, investment pieces being at the core of the brand.
The best part about this journey is that it has bought a whole community of those who love slow fashion together! The community has made everything that Slow Garments is today and I am so grateful for the support.
Everything you see on my website is made by me from my
sewing studio in Surrey, UK.
